Gerber handoff guide
Excellon drills, board outlines and DFM boundaries
Drill-to-outline checks can catch an obvious handoff error, but they do not understand every fabrication allowance, slot convention or board-house process rule.
Parse units and coordinate format
Confirm whether the Excellon file uses metric or inch units and the intended coordinate precision before comparing drill positions with Gerber geometry.
Identify the board profile
Use the assigned outline layer to establish visible board bounds. An absent or ambiguous profile should remain an unresolved bundle finding.
Compare drill hits with the outline
Surface drill centers beyond the visible board boundary as review items. Do not silently move, delete or repair the source coordinates.
Keep DFM with the fabricator
Electrical rules, annular rings, clearances, drill tolerances and process capabilities remain outside a bundle-completeness tool and belong in the fabricator's DFM review.
